When Faada Freddy and N'Dongo D decide to work together in 1992, this way of chanting everyday life that brings the hip hop they seem to come from afar, even from afar, as it is written into a collective memory that is natural ... Because it is ultimately for them as an extension of modern griot rhapsodies of their homeland. The thing is obvious: the music and the hopes of communion it creates will be their way of life. So they start rapping in Wolof, and then open their music all the influences that have built, funk, soul, pop, reggae, traditional music ... They create the group Daara J, and soar with the passion and urgency that feels like a mission to conquer a world of promise ... And the world does not resist them: they will be more than 1000 concerts around the world, with the first parts of Wyclef Jean Lincoln Center Festival, Mos Def at the Hollywood Bowl, appearances at WOMAD with Peter Gabriel, who will lead them to do concerts in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, UK, Singapore ... In France they provide including the first parts of Rita Mitsouko, Zebda, Ayo, and both play at the festival Transmusicales Solidays. Born three albums, the eponymous album "Daara J" in 1997, "Xalima" in 1998, and "Boomerang" in 2003 which won the award for best African album to BBC World Award.
Then in 2007 comes the time of questioning, a need for change arises. Narrowed to two founding members, the project takes the name of Daara J Family, and recovery on the road, fresh from a new creative impulse. After several collaborations (including participation in the Africa Express project of Damon Albarn in London and Lagos), and Freddy Faad N'Dongo in D then began writing a new album ... This one is finally ready, and listening to , we realize the extent of the register of the duo and their amazing ability to bring together New York, Dakar, Paris and Kingston on an enchanting musical world map that belongs to them: Tough and hip hop ballad heavenly Bayi Yon (one of the most beautiful melody on the album), funky unbridled spirit for "Oh why" and "Celebrate" (relentless dance machine and first single), flow raging for "School of Life" for tribal "Sun Afreeca "languid heat night for" Tomorrow ", reggae powerful" Children "unstoppable musical synthesis of these sources for" Time Boy "(a song that turns you into a long head) ... And then of course Africa, its hypnotic rhythms and melodies throughout the disc like a red thread, red as blood boiling with hope, as the burnt dust of the Sahel and the sun ignites the huge horizons of a dream land as a common home ...
The voice rough N'Dongo D imposes itself as the perfect complement to the great vocal flights of Faad Freddy ... And they prove once again that they know just write great songs ...
This superb new album, entitled "School of Life", was released May 10, 2010, in over twenty countries on the UK label Wrasse Records. A European tour will burn out the flame on stage Daara J Family in May 2010, the decks with DJ Neasso, Thierry Negro on bass and Laurent Pena Viera on drums ...
If by chance you meet two members of Daara J Family, you'll probably hit the extreme consistency of their attitude and their message. They sing solidarity, the need for sharing and education but apply themselves to their exhortations. And constantly returns in their speeches hoping to awaken the slumbering positive impulse in ourselves. We could then a smile jaded, but you see, this is not what happens ... Because the face of such sweetness and firmness combined, we find ourselves want to believe ...
